President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) signed this Friday (23) a provisional measure that establishes rules on brands, images, transmissions, advertising and commercial rights linked to the women’s football World Cup that will be held in Brazil next year. This will be the first time in history that the women’s competition will be played in South America. Brazil has already hosted two editions of the men’s football World Cup, in 1950 and in 2014. The event will take place between June 24 and July 25, 2027. There will be eight host cities: Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo. The text, published in the “Official Gazette of the Union”, establishes the legal regime of special protection for the championship. See the videos that are trending on g1 The regulation is part of a series of commitments made by Brazil with FIFA to host the event. The provisional measure establishes that FIFA holds the commercial exploitation rights for the event, including logos, mascots, trophies and audio and video transmission rights. The text also provides for areas of commercial and advertising restrictions in delimited regions around the stadiums and spaces of the FIFA Fan Festival. The MP also establishes that the protection of commercial and marketing rights does not mean exemption or relaxation of health, consumer protection and child and adolescent protection standards in national legislation, which remains fully applicable to the production, marketing, advertising and consumption of alcoholic beverages. The document provides for civil sanctions for anyone who misuses official symbols, holds unauthorized public exhibitions for commercial purposes or sells tickets illegally. See the main points of the provisional measure: Ownership: the text establishes that FIFA is the holder of the commercial exploitation rights for the event, including logos, mascots, trophies and audio and video transmission rights. Exclusive zones: there will be advertising restrictions around the official stadiums and the FIFA Fan Festival during the games period. Image rights: the organizer undertakes to offer 3% of the event’s images for journalistic use by broadcasters who do not hold the broadcasting rights. National laws apply: commercial and marketing rights do not relax health, consumer protection and child and adolescent protection standards in national legislation, which remains fully applicable to the production, marketing, advertising and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Exchange: the resale of tickets or their use in draws and promotions without authorization from FIFA is prohibited. Protected Internet: the registration of websites (domains) that improperly use official names of the 2027 World Cup may be rejected. Legacy and visibility: the MP aims to provide legal security to promote the development of women’s sport and tourism in Brazil.
