Influencer who suffered serious spinal injury shows signs of recovery

Nutritionist and digital influencer Flávia Bueno, 35 years old, showed the first signs of motor recovery after starting an experimental treatment with the polylaminin protein. She is admitted to Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, in São Paulo, and was able to move her right arm for the first time. Flávia suffered a serious spinal fracture in early January, when she dived into a shallow area on Maresias beach and hit a sandbank. The impact caused injuries to the C3, C4, C5 and C6 vertebrae, resulting in paralysis of the upper and lower limbs. Due to the severity and the refusal of several specialists to operate on it, the family opted to stay in the hospital, where the ethics committee authorized the use of the experimental protocol.

This month, Anvisa authorized the official start of the clinical study to evaluate the safety of polylaminin. The expectation is that, after large-scale tests, the treatment can be expanded to other patients suffering from spinal cord injuries.

Flávia does not have health insurance coverage. The family raises funds to pay for medical treatment, which has already exceeded the value of R$1 million. Donations can only be made to the Pix key belonging to Flávia’s brother and financial manager. The name of the recipient of the donations is Felipe Checchin da Silva Bueno.
