The president of the Federal Supreme Court, Edson Fachin, stated that he will not stand “idly by” if it is necessary to analyze questions about the investigation involving Banco Master, which is being reported by Minister Dias Toffoli. Toffoli’s actions have been the target of criticism and calls for suspicion due to alleged family connections with those around Banco Master.
In an interview with the newspaper O Globo, Fachin declared that he preferred not to anticipate any position on the report, but stated that he could act if necessary. “As president of the court, I cannot anticipate judgment on circumstances that will eventually be assessed by the collegiate. Part of what was mentioned involves non-jurisdictional acts. But one thing is certain: when it is necessary to act, I will not stand by. It hurts whoever it hurts” said the minister.
Regarding the negative reactions to the note he wrote in defense of the minister and the STF, last week, Fachin stated that “in this specific case, the regularity of judicial action during the recess was defended, since the reporting minister was appointed by random draw and chose to continue working. Nothing is immune to criticism, neither the Supreme Court nor any of its ministers. The interpretations of the note are legitimate, whatever they may be.”
