The flight was bound for Switzerland, where Trump would have participated in the World Economic Forum.

According to a statement from the White House, the problem was classified as minor, but the decision to turn back was made as a precaution. “After takeoff, the crew of Air Force One experienced a minor electrical problem. As a precaution, the aircraft will return to Joint Base Andrews. The President and his team will board another aircraft and continue their journey to Switzerland.” – says the official announcement.

Although the exact type of malfunction was not specified, journalists on board reported that the press cabin lights briefly went out immediately after takeoff. There were no reports of injuries or a situation directly threatening the safety of the flight.

Everything you need to know about Air Force One

Air Force One is currently served by two aircraft, both of which have been in service for nearly four decades. The planes manufactured by Boeing undergo continuous maintenance, but at the same time the replacement program is plagued by a series of delays.

Unlike most modern commercial aircraft, Air Force One has four engines and is capable of aerial refueling, allowing it to stay in the air for long periods of time if necessary. The aircraft is also designed to operate in extreme conditions, including nuclear conflict scenarios, ensuring that the president can continue to exercise command over the armed forces from the air.

Last year, Qatar presented Trump with a luxury Boeing 747-8 aircraft, which they intend to integrate into the presidential fleet. The gift sparked widespread political and institutional scrutiny. The aircraft is currently undergoing modifications to meet the strict security and communications requirements required to carry the head of state of the United States.
