On Saturday afternoon (17), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was invited by Donald Trump to join the “Peace Council” for Gaza. The invitation was sent through the Brazilian embassy in Washington. Lula would be one of several leaders who received an invitation letter.

According to a report by Band in Brasília, the matter will be discussed with Lula when Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, returns from Paraguay, where he participated, this Saturday, in the signing of the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur. This Saturday, the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, shared an image of the letter on social media, confirming that he is one of the guests. In the publication, Milei stated that it will be “an honor to be one of the founding members” of the organization chaired by Trump.

According to Reuters, leaders from France, Germany, Australia, Canada, Egypt and Turkey, as well as the president of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, are also among the guests. The White House said billionaire Marc Rowan, World Bank President Ajay Banga and Trump advisor Robert Gabriel will also be part of the initiative. Nikolay Mladenov, former UN envoy for the Middle East, will be the high representative for Gaza. The Council’s initial objective would be to help end the conflict in the Palestinian enclave.

Some other names had already been released on Friday (16), such as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
