The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Friday (30) through the social network Truth Social, that Kevin Warsh is the new president of the Federal Reserve (FED), the North American central bank.
Behind the scenes, the name of the 55-year-old executive was already mentioned. He has extensive experience in the financial market and has already served on the FED’s own board of governors, including during the 2008 financial crisis. He is seen as a less radical option than the other names considered who prefer a more aggressive drop in American interest rates.
The Central Bank has been criticized by Trump, including provoking the former president, Jerome Powell, saying that he is too slow for not lowering American interest rates more quickly. The Republican through the United States Department of Justice opened a criminal investigation into the US$ 2.5 billion renovation at the headquarters of the monetary authority. The investigation is seen as another instrument of pressure to lower interest rates.
