Death of American in immigration action in the USA raises doubts about official version

Man is shot and dies during an ICE operation in Minneapolis The death of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, 37, during an immigration operation in Minneapolis, this Saturday (24), reignited protests and increased pressure on federal authorities in the United States. The episode is taking on new contours after the release of video analyzes and testimonies by “The New York Times”, which cast doubt on the version presented by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regarding the circumstances of the shooting. ⚠️ Pretti was an American citizen, an ICU nurse and worked at a hospital linked to the Department of Veterans Affairs. He was shot dead by federal agents during an action led by DHS, in a context of growing tension in the city — marked by demonstrations against immigration policies and the overt presence of federal forces. 🛡️ After the episode, authorities stated that Pretti was armed, had drawn the weapon and put the agents at risk, which would have led one of them to shoot in self-defense. In public statements, members of the government even associated the case with acts of “domestic terrorism”. The official narrative, however, began to be challenged after the release of videos recorded by witnesses. This is because the images do not show any moment in which Pretti draws the weapon or threatens the agents. There is also no evidence that the agents knew, at that time, that he was armed — although Pretti was legally authorized to carry a firearm. What do the images show? According to the NYT analysis, Pretti held a cell phone in one hand while filming the agents’ actions. At one point, he positions himself between an immigration agent and a woman who was being pepper-sprayed. Afterwards, he is surrounded by several agents, knocked to the ground and immobilized. The images indicate that, while Pretti remained restrained on the floor, one of the agents appears to remove a weapon — possibly the one that was hidden with the nurse — and moves away from the scene. Still, other agents remain on him. Shortly afterwards, one of the police officers, positioned directly above Pretti, appears to fire a shot at close range. Afterwards, other shots are heard. A parallel analysis, carried out by Reuters, points out that an agent would have shot Pretti four times in quick succession, followed by new shots. *Updated report Alex Pretti, the man who was shot by a federal agent in Minneapolis on Saturday, January 24, 2026 AP
