China reaches agreement for new aid package for Cuba

by Marcelo Moreira

The Chinese dictatorship approved a new round of aid for Cuba, which, according to a statement from the Castro regime’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will include US$80 million in emergency financial assistance for the purchase of electrical equipment and other “urgent needs” and a donation of 60,000 tons of rice.

According to the ministry’s report, the Chinese ambassador to Cuba, Hua Xin, confirmed the agreement in a meeting this week in Havana with the Cuban dictator, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

“When receiving the head of the diplomatic mission, Díaz-Canel Bermúdez expressed his warmest greetings and highlighted the intense activity that the Chinese ambassador has been carrying out in Cuba recently, including the delivery on Monday [19]from the first installment of the rice donation previously approved by the People’s Republic of China”, informed the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Although the Chinese dictatorship has already helped the Cuban dictatorship at other times, such as in 2024, when it carried out an emergency delivery of 20 thousand tons of rice between April and July, the announced aid now takes on another meaning, because Havana lost its great ally in the Western Hemisphere: the Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, captured in a United States military operation on January 3.

After this action, American President Donald Trump said on social media that the island would not receive “any more oil or money” from Venezuela and suggested that the Cuban regime make “an agreement before it is too late”.

Díaz-Canel also responded on social media, saying that “there are no conversations with the United States government”. This Wednesday (21), the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration is looking for people within the Cuban dictatorship to facilitate a change of regime on the island by the end of the year.
