Lawyers for former deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) reported that they managed to interrupt this Tuesday (20) the hearing of her extradition case from Italy through a request to replacement of the panel of judges that analyzes the case. According to the team, the court appears to be in a “rush” to approve the extension and the “arguation of suspicion and replacement” of the Italian magistrates must be filed within three days.
Carla’s lawyers’ argument is that the judges in charge would be biased. The refusal to include evidence and hear expert Eduardo Tagliaferro would violate international conventions, according to the lawyers. Present at the Court, Zambelli declared “maximum respect for the magistrates”, but confirmed that he saw “disinterest” from the judges and that he feared that his judgment would not be impartial.

“The Court attempted to end the trial with a sentence that was visibly preconceiveddenying the constitutional right to include witnesses and fundamental evidence”, explained the note, signed by Pieremilio Sammarco and Fábio Pagnozzi.
A justice Italian company has not yet commented on the decision and is expected to announce a new date for the next hearing in the coming days. Agência Brasil reported that the Italian court considered that there was no time to process information from the Brazilian government about the prison in which Zambelli will serve his sentence if he returns to Brazil. The defense claimed that the Federal District Women’s Penitentiary, known as Colmeia, would not guarantee the human rights of the former parliamentarian.
Carla Zambelli is imprisoned in Rome after leaving Brazil and being sentenced to ten years in prison by the Federal Supreme Court (STF). His extradition request was made by the Brazilian government, which wants the sentence served for allegedly participating in a plan to invade the National Justice Council (CNJ) system, with the support of hacker Walter Delgatti Neto. She resigned as federal deputy in December.
