Belarus has received a new shipment of multifunctional Su-30SM2 fighter jets that arrived at one of the country’s air bases, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus said on January 29.

According to the ministry, the new aircraft is part of the ongoing process of upgrading the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of Belarus. The Su-30SM2 had previously entered service and this delivery continues the delivery schedule for the modernized jets. The previous delivery took place in December last year.

The arrival of the aircraft was confirmed by the deputy commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces and the Air Force chief, Colonel Aleksandr Belyaev, in an official statement from the ministry.

“The most important task of our pilots is to protect the country’s borders in the airspace. They are at the forefront of defense,” Belyaev said. “The arrival of new aviation equipment is always a celebration for pilots. Flying a jet that has just come out of the factory is an honor and a pleasure, but it also brings with it great responsibility.”

The officer added that the sense of responsibility of the personnel responsible for the operation and maintenance of the new aircraft is extremely high. “The sense of responsibility that aviation personnel feel when working with this type of equipment transcends all limits. We have no right to disappoint our people and our country. We will do everything to ensure that our beloved Motherland remains peaceful and prosperous,” he said.

The Su-30SM2 is a modernized version of the Su-30SM and incorporates improvements in avionics, radar systems and compatibility with the latest guided missiles. The jet is designed for air superiority, escort, intercept missions and strikes and serves as a central platform for both the Russian and Belarusian air forces.

In recent years, Belarus has steadily expanded its fleet of modern fighter aircraft as part of closer military integration with Russia. The Su-30SM2 deliveries are made under bilateral defense cooperation agreements and are intended to replace Soviet fighter jets still in service with Belarusian units.

The Air Force and Air Defense Forces of Belarus use the Su-30SM family as one of the pillars of protecting the national airspace. The aircraft are routinely used for air patrols, joint exercises with Russian forces and integrated air defense operations within the framework of the Union State.

The Defense Department has not disclosed the number of aircraft included in this shipment nor the specific base that received them. However, the confirmation shows that Belarus continues to receive brand-new aircraft as part of a phased modernization program.

The delivery comes amid increased regional military activity along NATO’s eastern flank, where Belarusian and Russian forces conduct regular air and ground training. The Su-30SM2’s extended range, multi-functional capabilities and advanced sensors enable operations across the entire airspace of Belarus and beyond, supporting both national and allied missions.
