Belarus has received a new batch of new multi-role combat aircraft Su-30SM2, which arrived at one of the country’s air bases, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus announced on January 29.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the new fighter jets are part of the continuous process of modernization of the Belarusian Air Force and air defense forces. The Su-30SM2 has already been previously fielded and this delivery continues the modernized fighter delivery schedule. The previous lot was delivered in December last year.

The arrival of the plane was confirmed in an official statement by the deputy commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces, the head of the aviation wing, Colonel Alexander Belyaev.

“The main task of our airmen is the defense of the country’s airspace. They are on the front line of defense,” Belyaev said. “The arrival of new aviation equipment is always a joy for aviators. Flying a fighter jet straight out of the factory is an honor and a joy, but it also comes with great responsibility.”

Furthermore, the official emphasized that the personnel in charge of operating and maintaining the new aircraft have a very high sense of responsibility. “The sense of responsibility of the Air Force when handling this type of equipment is beyond limits. We have no right to let down our people and our country. We will do everything in our power to ensure that our beloved homeland continues to be peaceful and prosperous.”

The Su-30SM2 is a modernized version of the Su-30SM, with advances in avionics, radar systems, and compatibility with modern guided weapons. The fighter is designed for air superiority, escort, interception and attack missions and is an important platform for both the Russian and Belarusian Air Forces.

In recent years, Belarus has been steadily increasing its fleet of modern fighter jets as it pursues military integration with Russia. The delivery of the Su-30SM2 is part of bilateral defense cooperation and is intended to replace the fleet of Soviet-made fighter jets still in service with Belarusian forces.

The Belarusian Air Force and air defense forces use the Su-30SM family as one of the pillars of the country’s airspace defense. The aircraft are regularly used in airspace patrols, joint exercises with the Russian military, and joint air defense operations with allied nations.

The Ministry of Defense has not disclosed the specific number of aircraft in this delivery lot or the bases that received them. However, the confirmation showed that Belarus continues to receive new aircraft from the factory as part of a gradual modernization program.

The deliveries come amid increased regional military activity along NATO’s eastern flank, where Belarusian and Russian forces regularly conduct air-ground exercises. The Su-30SM2’s long range, multifunctional capabilities and advanced sensors allow it to operate throughout Belarusian airspace and beyond, supporting both domestic and allied missions.
