The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said this Friday (20), during an official visit to Warsaw, that a Ukrainian defeat in the war against Russia could open the way for a military advance by Moscow towards Poland. The statement was made while he was participating in a press conference alongside Polish President Karol Nawrocki.
“Without our independence, Moscow will inevitably advance on Poland. That’s why it’s important that we exist, that you exist, that Ukraine and Poland exist and that we are together,” Zelensky said.
The meeting between Zelensky and Nawrocki was the first since the Polish president took office in August.
Poland has been considered one of the main logistical and political pillars of Western support for Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion in 2022. Warsaw depends on Ukrainian resistance to keep Russia away from its borders, while Kiev relies on Polish territory as an essential route for sending military aid.
The Polish government, led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, has maintained consistent support for Ukraine.
