Tainara Souza Santos died this Wednesday (24), aged 31, after almost a month in hospital in serious condition. She had been run over and dragged for about a kilometer on Marginal Tietê, in São Paulo, on November 30, and did not survive the complications caused by her injuries.

The death was confirmed by Tainara’s mother, who published a message on social media lamenting the loss of her daughter, whom she called a “little warrior”. Since the crime, family and friends have followed the evolution of the clinical picture, which mobilized great commotion throughout the country.

The collision occurred after an argument in a bar in the North Zone of São Paulo. According to witnesses, Tainara’s ex-partner, Douglas Alves da Silva, aged 26, did not accept the end of the relationship and allegedly used the car to hit her. Security camera footage recorded the moment of the crime on one of the city’s busiest roads.

After the attack, Tainara was taken to the Vereador José Storopolli Municipal Hospital, in Vila Maria, where she underwent several surgeries. Due to the severity of the injuries, both legs were amputated and remained hospitalized until death was confirmed.

Douglas Alves da Silva was arrested in the act a few hours after the incident. Initially, he was responsible for attempted feminicide, but, with the death of the victim, the classification of the crime must be changed to qualified homicide. The defense claims there was no intention to kill. The Civil Police continues with the investigations and should forward the inquiry to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
