Maduro’s proclamation as re-elected president sparked protests that resulted in the arrest of around 2,400 people, whom the president himself classified as “terrorists”. More than 2,000 have already been released, according to official data. The NGO Justicia Encuentro y Perdón, in turn, estimated that 1,085 people were imprisoned for political reasons before their release this Christmas. In other words, more than a thousand people remain in various detention centers because they are critics/opponents of the Nicolás Maduro regime. See the videos that are trending on g1 The releases began in the early hours of Thursday, December 25th, reported the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners (Clippve). “We celebrate the release of more than 60 Venezuelans, who should never have been arbitrarily detained. Although they are not completely free, we will continue working for their full freedom and that of all political prisoners”, declared Andreína Baduel, head of Clippve, to AFP. The conditions of these releases are unclear. The AFP requested details about the releases from the Public Ministry, but has not yet received a response.
