Trump says US attack in Venezuela hit port area

by Marcelo Moreira

During an interview with journalists this Monday (29), the President of the United States, Donald Trump, revealed that the target of the American attack carried out in Venezuela was a port area used for drug shipments.

Until then, both US authorities and American press sources generically described the operation as an action against a “major drug trafficking facility”, without specifying the location affected. This Monday, Trump said that there was a “huge explosion in the port area where the vessels were loaded with drugs.”

“We have hit all boats, and now we have hit the area – that area of implementation no longer exists,” said the American president.

Confirmation of the port nature of the attacked structure represents the most concrete information ever provided by the US government about the operation, expanding the impact of Trump’s previous statement, made on Friday (26) on the radio WABCwhen he referred only to the destruction of a “large installation” in the country that lives under the regime of Nicolás Maduro. The Venezuelan dictatorship remains silent and has not officially recognized the occurrence of any attack of this type on national territory.
