Thiago Silva is announced by Porto

by Marcelo Moreira

Porto announced this Saturday (20) the signing of defender Thiago Silva, 41 years old. The defender signed a contract until the middle of next year, at the end of the European season.

The negotiation also foresees the possibility of renewal for another season. If the contract is extended, Thiago Silva could remain at the club until mid-2027.

With the transfer, the defender returns to Porto after two decades. In 2005, at the beginning of his career, he played for the Portuguese club’s B team and played 14 matches that season.

In a statement released by Porto, Thiago Silva stated that he was motivated by the new challenge. The player highlighted the importance of the opportunity and said he was prepared to contribute to the team in European football.

His arrival at the Portuguese club comes just a few days after terminating his contract with Fluminense. Last Wednesday (17), the Rio club officially announced the termination of the relationship with the defender.

An idol of the tricolor fans, Thiago Silva had a remarkable spell at Fluminense. In total, he played 212 matches and scored 19 goals for the club.

In the 2025 season alone, the defender played in 46 games and found the net four times, maintaining regularity and protagonism even at the age of 41.
