The Russian Federation once again launched a large-scale missile strike against Ukraine on Saturday morning; The capital Kyiv was among the attacks.

As the situation worsened, the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command increased the level of military preparedness as a preventive measure and temporarily suspended activities at two airports in the country.

In the official statement made by the Operational Command, it was stated that Polish military aviation started operations in the national airspace due to the activities of Russian long-range aviation, which participated in attacks on Ukrainian territory. In accordance with the procedures in force, the necessary elements were mobilized, including the take-off of warplanes and the activation of ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems.

According to the command, the measures taken were preventive in nature and aimed to protect Polish airspace, especially in areas close to areas considered risky areas. Military officials also emphasized that the situation is constantly monitored and that subordinate units are ready to respond immediately if necessary.

As part of these measures, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA) announced the temporary suspension of civilian flight operations at Rzeszów and Lublin airports in order to ensure that military aviation has full freedom of movement during the alert period.

Shortly afterwards, Operational Command confirmed that the air campaign had ended. According to the statement, the activities of Polish and allied air elements in the country’s airspace have been completed and air defense and radar surveillance systems have returned to standard operational status. Authorities emphasized that there was no record of violations of the airspace of the Republic of Poland.

The statement also thanked NATO and NATO Air Command, as well as the US and Spanish air forces and the Dutch Armed Forces for their support with aircraft and air defense systems to ensure the security of Polish airspace.

According to the Operational Command, the Polish Armed Forces continue to closely monitor the situation on Ukrainian territory within the scope of the Wschodnia Zorza operation and remain constantly ready to ensure the integrity of the national airspace.
