The Russian Federation launched a new massive missile attack against Ukraine on Saturday morning, hitting, among other targets, the capital Kiev.
In the context of the worsening situation, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces of Poland reacted preventively, raising the level of military training and temporarily suspending operations in two airports in the country.
In an official statement, the Operational Command stated that, due to the activity of the Russian long-range aviation involved in the attacks on the Ukrainian territory, the Polish military aviation began to operate in the national airspace. According to the procedures in force, the necessary means were mobilized, including the take-off of fighter jets and the activation of ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems.
According to the Command, the measures adopted were of a preventive nature and aimed at protecting Polish airspace, especially in areas close to regions considered at risk. The military authorities also stressed that the situation was continuously monitored and that subordinate forces remained ready for an immediate response if necessary.
As part of these actions, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA) announced the temporary suspension of civil operations at the airports of Rzeszów and Lublin to ensure the full freedom of operation of military aviation during the alert period.

Shortly thereafter, the Operational Command confirmed the end of the air operation. According to the note, the activity of Polish and allied aviation in the country’s airspace has been completed, and air defense and radar surveillance systems have returned to standard operational activity. The authorities emphasized that no violation of the airspace of the Republic of Poland was registered.
The communique also thanked allies for their support, including NATO and NATO Air Command, as well as the air forces of the United States and Spain and the Armed Forces of the Netherlands, which contributed aircraft and air defense systems to ensure the security of Polish skies.
According to the Operational Command, the Armed Forces of Poland continue to closely monitor the situation on Ukrainian territory within the Wschodnia Zorza operation and remain in a state of permanent readiness to ensure the integrity of the national airspace.
