Russia denies negotiating a trilateral agreement with the US and Ukraine

by Marcelo Moreira

This Sunday (21), Russia denied that it was negotiating a trilateral meeting with Ukraine and the United States. The news came from Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy advisor. Yuri Ushakov said that no one “seriously discussed this initiative” and as far as he knows “nothing is being prepared.”

The comment was made because on Saturday the Ukrainian president had mentioned this possibility. Zelensky said on Saturday (20) that Washington had proposed a trilateral meeting, in what would be the first face-to-face negotiations between Moscow and Kiev in half a year.

The Ukrainian president also said that it would be “logical to hold a meeting of this type”. On the other hand, he expressed skepticism about possible progress in these conversations. The new uncertainties occur while delegations from the two enemy countries are in Miami for new negotiation stages.
