Karoline Leavitt said in July that the bruise was the result of “shaking hands with more people every day than any other president in history.” Now, in the last days of the year, Trump appears in photos that show both his hands stained – the right one covered in makeup and the left one with a lighter part and the other with purple stains. They were visible at a Christmas event, on December 24th, and at the meeting with Volodimyr Zelensky, Ukrainian president, on the 28th. Leavitt did not comment on the new images, which generate comments in the US press and on social media. In a memo signed by doctor Sean Barbabella, the White House said that chronic venous insufficiency caused swelling in Trump’s legs, but emphasizes that it is a “benign and common condition, especially in individuals over 70 years of age”. The document also said that the president does not present thrombosis, nor signs of heart failure, renal impairment or systemic diseases. Regarding the president’s hand, the White House stated at the time that the purple spots appeared due to “frequent handshakes” and the use of aspirin.
