Kawasaki Motors Japan has officially announced the specifications and launch date of the new range Z900RSwhich was first presented worldwide at Japan Mobility Show 2025.
The main attraction is Z900RS SE 2026which comes with significant engine modifications, new electronics, a connected instrument panel and redesigned ergonomics, while retaining the classic look inspired by the legendary Z1.
The Japanese market launch is scheduled for February 14, 2026. All versions will be sold with the system ETC 2.0 in standard equipment and will be included in the program Kawasaki Care.
Modernized engine and increased power
The main technical innovation is the introduction of the system ETVi.e. a new electronically controlled throttle, the aim of which is to combine fluidity at low revs with a more pronounced response at high revs. An engine of volume 948 cm³ underwent an extensive revision, including an increase in the z compression ratio 10,8:1 which is 11,8:1 and redesign of the camshaft profile.
Another significant change was the weight reduction of the crankshaft flywheel by approx 10 percent compared to the previous model, which improved throttle response and brought a sportier performance at high revs.
The maximum power thus increased from 111 hp at 8,500 rpm already 116 hp at 9,300 rpm. The maximum torque remains at the value 10,0 kgf.mbut is now available at 7,700 rpmcompared to 6,500 rpm in the previous version.
New exhaust and adjustments to the whole
The exhaust system has also been modified. The exhaust pipe now has an arrangement that extends further forward than the previous model, and the shape of the downpipes has been redesigned. The silencer is a new type tapered megaphoneo 70 mm longer than before, and uses a stainless steel screw-on end.
Following these changes, the antechamber was reduced in size and integrated into the system subcatalyst.
Bosch IMU, cornering function, quick shifter and cruise control
Along with the electronic throttle, Kawasaki installed a new unit Bosch IMUthereby strengthening electronic assistance systems. The package includes new cornering braking control functions through the system KCMF and updates ABS.
The menu is also new KQS s bidirectional quick shifter a cruise controlwhile both systems have been operating since 1500 rpm.
Classically tuned instrument panel with connectivity
The Z900RS model retains the analog-tuned instrument panel, but now supplemented by smartphone connectivitywhich combines a retro look with modern functions.
Revised ergonomics and changes in riding position
Kawasaki has also redesigned the ergonomics of the model. The handlebars are of a new, narrower type, while the position of the grips has been shifted 50 mm inwards a 38 mm lower. The saddle received a new shape and polyurethane foam for greater comfort and better damping.
Seat height remains unchanged: 835 mm for the Z900RS and 845 mm for the SE version. Kawasaki also offers an optional drop seat that lowers the seat height to 810mm for riders who want an easier reach to the ground.
Design inspired by the Z1 and Fireball color on the SE version
Although the Z1-inspired styling is retained, Z900RS SE stands out by referring to the original color Fireball of the classic model, thus strengthening the connection of visual heritage with modern technology.
