Kawasaki Motors Japan has officially announced the specifications and launch date of the new Z900RSseries, which was presented globally for the first time at Japan Mobility Show 2025.
The main model is Z900RS SE 2026which comes with major engine updates, new electronic features, a connected dashboard and improved ergonomics, while retaining the classic look inspired by the legendary Z1.
The launch in Japan is planned for February 14, 2026. All versions will be sold with ETC 2.0 as standard equipment and will be covered by Kawasaki Care– the program.
Updated engine and increased power
The biggest technical change is the introduction of ETVthe new electronically controlled throttle, which is designed to combine soft response at low revs with stronger response at high revs. The 948 cc engine has undergone an extensive revision, including an increase in the compression ratio from 10.8:1 to 11.8:1 and a redesigned camshaft profile.
Another significant change is a reduction of approx 10 percent in the flywheel mass on the crankshaft compared to the previous model, which improves throttle response and provides a sportier feel at high revs.
As a result, the maximum power has increased from 111 hp at 8,500 rpm to 116 hp at 9,300 rpm. The maximum torque remains 10,0 kgf.mbut is now delivered by 7,700 rpmagainst 6,500 rpm on the previous model.
New exhaust system and adjustments
The exhaust system has also been changed. The exhaust pipe now has a location that extends further forward than on the previous model, with a revised shape of the manifold pipes. The silencer is now a new type conical megaphone, 70 mm longer than before, and has a bolted stainless steel end cap.
In line with these changes, the combustion chamber has been compressed, and a subkatalysator is integrated into the system.
Bosch IMU, curve functions, quick shifter and cruise control
Along with the electronic throttle, Kawasaki has installed a new one Bosch IMUwhich strengthens the suite of electronic assistance systems. It includes new features for cornering brake control via KCMF as well as updates of ABS– the system.
The series also introduces KQS with two-way quick shifter and cruise controlboth of which can be activated from 1,500 rpm.
Classic instrument panel with connection
The Z900RS retains its analogue-style instrument panel, which is now fitted with smartphone connectionwhich combines retro aesthetics with modern functions.
Revised ergonomics and changed driving position
Kawasaki has also redesigned the ergonomics of the model. The handlebars are of a new, narrower type, where the grip position has been moved 50 mm inadad and 38 mm downwards. The seat has a new shape and is equipped with polyurethane foam to improve comfort and suspension.
Seat height remains unchanged: 835mm on the Z900RS and 845mm on the SE version. Kawasaki also offers an optional low seat that reduces the seat height to 810mm for riders who want easier contact with the ground.
Z1-inspired design and Fireball color on SE
Although the Z1-inspired design is retained, separates Z900RS SE stand out by recalling the original Fireball-color from the classic model, emphasizing the combination of visual heritage and modern technology.
