Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has signed an agreement worth 93 billion won (approximately US$64 million) with the Department of Defense of the Philippines Philippine Air Force FA-50 to modernize its fighter fleet.
Under the contract, 11 FA-50PH aircraft will undergo modernization by 2029, with an emphasis on increasing the ability to use precision-guided munitions, as well as improving range and operational time. The package also includes strengthening network-based interoperability, increasing the ability to effectively conduct joint military operations.

Between 2015 and 2017, the Philippine Air Force received 12 FA-50PH jets; one of these was later lost in a training accident, reducing the size of the operational fleet.
The FA-50PH is a light attack aircraft that uses the same platform as the advanced T-50 trainer and can also perform combat missions when equipped with the appropriate armament — a feature that gives the type a high degree of operational flexibility.
In June, Manila further expanded its aerial capabilities by ordering 12 more FA-50PHs in a deal worth about $700 million, strengthening cooperation with South Korea’s aerospace industry and continuing modernization of combat aviation.
