The governor of Bahia, Jerônimo Rodrigues, positively evaluated the state management in an interview with BandNews TV this Monday (22), highlighting advances in the economy, infrastructure, tourism and public security. He also confirmed that he intends to run for re-election in 2026, counting on the support of President Lula.
Economy and job creation
Jerônimo Rodrigues highlighted that Bahia recently created 100 thousand jobs, attributing the result to the resumption of federal investments and the state’s balanced fiscal management. He highlighted that the recovery includes works that had been stopped for six years, such as highways and railways, in addition to new state and private contributions.
The governor cited the strengthening of agribusiness in the West, North and Far South, as well as the growth of family farming. He also mentioned the arrival of large companies, such as the Chinese BYD, in the Camaçari Complex, as an example of a vector of economic development.
Infrastructure and mobility
Among the structuring projects, Jerônimo Rodrigues highlighted the 13 km Salvador-Itaparica Bridge, which is in the preparatory phase with a Chinese consortium and should have physical works started in the first half of 2026. In addition, Salvador will have 40 km of metro connected to 40 km of VLT, with tests already started connecting Calçada to Suburbio and Águas Claras to the Piatã waterfront.
Renewable energy
The governor highlighted that Bahia accounts for around 40% of Brazil’s renewable energy, between wind and solar. He also highlighted federal auctions for the construction of transmission lines, which will allow the energy produced in the state to be transported to the South and Southeast.
Tourism and historic summer
The state leads tourism in the Northeast, representing 50% of visitors to the region. In addition to the beaches and Carnival, Jerônimo highlighted the diversification of attractions, such as the production of wine and fruit in Chapada Diamantina and Vale do São Francisco.
To guarantee security and infrastructure for tourists, the state invests in hospitals, Basic Health Units and UPAs, in addition to ensuring water supply and public safety. The New Year’s Eve program includes the show “Pôr do Som”, with Daniela Mercury, at Farol da Barra.
Public safety
Jerônimo defended strategies based on intelligence and financial combat against criminal factions, acting on the “top line”, where organized crime is financed. He highlighted the 30% reduction in violent deaths in November, compared to previous years, and reinforced the use of body cameras and facial recognition to protect the population and police officers.
Political agenda for 2026
The governor confirmed his candidacy for reelection and highlighted President Lula’s support, highlighting the partnership between the federal government and the state as essential for the development of Bahia and the Northeast, in contrast to the isolation suffered in previous years.
