Last Friday (19), the federal government created the Extraordinary Secretariat for the 2027 Women’s Football World Cup. The initiative aims to centralize and coordinate Brazil’s preparations to host the tournament.
The new secretariat was established through Decree No. 12,789 and will operate within the structure of the Ministry of Sports. The body will have temporary operation, expected to be in force until December 2027.
According to a statement from the ministry, the Extraordinary Secretariat will be responsible for providing direct dialogue between the Brazilian government and the International Football Federation (FIFA). The team will also be responsible for monitoring international commitments and supporting states and municipalities involved in organizing the event.
Among its responsibilities are the articulation of guarantees in areas considered strategic, such as public security, urban mobility, telecommunications, immigration, health and information technology.
For the Minister of Sports, André Fufuca, the creation of extraordinary structures is a common practice in the country at major events and contributes to ensuring greater coordination, efficiency and transparency in the execution of necessary actions.
The deputy executive secretary of the Ministry of Sports and coordinator of the 2027 Women’s World Cup, Cynthia Motta, stated that there will be no need for work on stadiums for the tournament.
According to her, the secretariat’s efforts will be concentrated mainly on logistics, urban mobility, airports, information technology, lawn maintenance, health and inter-ministerial coordination, with a team dedicated exclusively to preparing the World Cup.
