On the morning of this Wednesday (31), firefighters carried out a search for a boy who disappeared in the sea of Copacabana, near station 2. According to relatives, he is a 14-year-old teenager, from Campinas, in the interior of SP.
During the search, firefighters rescued other people swept away by the sea due to a sea surge. To date, there have been more than 100 rescues, in Copacabana alone.
A drowning man in Ipanema was taken in serious condition to a hospital in the region. The situation was considered dangerous even for those walking along the shore, without entering the water. The waves came close to one of the stages set up for New Year’s Eve shows.
The Navy issued a surf warning for the region this week, with waves of up to 2.5 meters forecast. RJ’s Civil Defense also issued an alert recommending that the population avoid entering the sea.
