The Italian group Fincantieri stated that the delivery ceremony for A 5336 Atlasthe second ship in the Logistic Support Ship (LSS) program, took place on December 19 for the Italian Navy.
The unit was built at the company’s shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia in the Naples region.
Atlante is part of the Italian Navy’s program of logistic support ships, developed to ensure supply at sea, operational support and logistical sustainment of naval forces during long-term missions. The contract for the construction of the second LSS was awarded in December 2021 to the Italian RTI consortium, led by Fincantieri, with an estimated value of 410 million euros.

Atlante’s industrial schedule followed the main planned milestones: the first steel cutting ceremony took place on 20 July 2022, the keel laying was completed on 28 June 2023, and the launch took place on 18 May 2024. Subsequently, the ship began sea trials on 25 March 2025, which was the final stage before the official delivery to the Navy.
The LSS program began with the flagship Vulcano (A 5335), which was delivered to the Italian Navy in March 2021 and is already in operational service. Like Vulcano, Atlante has a fully loaded displacement of over 27,000 tons and a length of 193 meters, making it one of the largest and most capable logistics support platforms in the Italian fleet.
With the incorporation of Atlante, the Italian Navy significantly strengthens its power projection and maritime sustainment capabilities, increasing the squadrons’ autonomy during operations in the Mediterranean and in areas of strategic international interest.
