End of oil strike will be voted on in assembly

by Marcelo Moreira

The Single Federation of Oil Workers (FUP) defended the end of the category’s strike after assessing that there had been progress in negotiations with Petrobras. The strike has already lasted nine days and the closure will be decided at union assemblies.

According to the federation, the proposal presented by Petrobras meets part of the workers’ demands. Therefore, the FUP instructed the unions to vote to end the strike.

Even with this indication, the final decision is not automatic. Each union will consult oil workers in assemblies, which will define whether the category accepts the proposal or not.

The strike affected important sectors of Petrobras. According to the FUP, six refineries and 16 oil platforms were impacted during the strike.

Among the points negotiated are the expansion of rights and benefits. The measures involve active workers, retirees, pensioners and outsourced workers.
