After storm, wall collapses in Franca (SP) and kills one person

The heavy rains that hit the state of São Paulo late this Monday afternoon (29) caused flooding, fallen trees, interruptions in electricity supply and left at least one person dead in the interior of São Paulo.

In the capital, the storm put the city on alert for flooding. Civil Defense sent alerts to residents’ cell phones due to the intensity of the rains. Some regions also recorded strong winds, which caused trees to fall.

According to the Climate Emergency Management Center (CGE), the highest wind gusts were recorded in the regions of Santana and the Guarapiranga dam, with speeds between 30.5 km/h and 34.5 km/h.

At around 7pm, more than 31,600 properties were without electricity in Greater São Paulo, according to the concessionaire Enel. Of this total, around 26.3 thousand were in the capital, 2.6 thousand in Cotia and 1.1 thousand in Juquitiba.

Collapse in Franca

In the interior of the state, one person died and three others were injured after the wall of an establishment collapsed in the city of Franca. According to the Fire Department, the case occurred on Rua Rio Branco, in the Industrial District, after a storm accompanied by strong winds.

According to the state Civil Defense, wind gusts in Franca reached 30 km/h, with an accumulated rainfall of approximately 15 millimeters.
