A YouTuber who was taking a motorcycle ride in the desert ended up recording the effectiveness of a remote rescue after his friend was involved in a serious accident.
Adam Riemannan Australian biker with more than 900,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel, was with his friend Rossin the Simpson Desert, Australia, to test its brand new BMW R 1150 GS Adventure.
The bike had some problems, but it remained “rideable”. Despite this, as an experienced adventure biker, Riemann had equipped himself with a satellite tracker before setting off on this expedition with his friend.
Unfortunately, shortly after the journey began, Ross was in a serious accident. After hitting the ground, he told Riemann that he could no longer move his arms or legs.
He eventually regained feeling in his legs, but the extremely high temperature of the Simpson Desert did nothing to help his recovery.
While waiting for help to arrive, Riemann worked to keep him cool and make sure he didn’t move, to avoid aggravating his injuries.
Riemann ended up cutting up some of Ross’s clothing to improve air circulation, then improvised a shelter to keep him in the shade. They also had a few bottles of water, which he poured over Ross to cool him down as much as possible.
Finally, a rescue helicopter arrived on scene. The medical team quickly treated Ross for shock and pain before stabilizing him enough so he could be taken to hospital for tests, diagnosis and treatment.
According to a comment added by Riemann to the video posted on YouTube, Ross apparently made a quick recovery and did not suffer any spinal injuries, which was obviously the biggest fear right after the accident.
But the video offers a rare insight into the effectiveness of remote rescues, as well as the importance of always going on an adventure with a friend who can help in an emergency.
