The US military has begun testing unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) focused on coordinated attacks and anti-tank operations.

The tests were conducted at the end of October by the Army Transformation and Training Command (T2COM) during the event xTechOverwatch dedicated to unmanned systems at the Combat Development Center Bush Innovation Test Range in Bryan, Texas.

According to the U.S. Army’s announcement, the event allowed selected teams from industry and academic institutions to demonstrate their autonomous systems and compete for integration opportunities with the armed forces.

The event brought together 40 invited teams, each showcasing aerial, ground, payload and collaborative autonomy technologies during simulated situational training exercises.

The Army said 20 teams were selected to continue development and integration efforts. From now on, the selected teams “will work directly with Transformation in Contact training from January 2026 to July 2027”.

Among the systems on display was the Unmanned Ground Vehicle FireAntdeveloped by Swarmbotics AI“a lightweight, disposable unmanned ground vehicle, designed to operate in a swarm under the command of a single operator, with the objective of detecting, tracking and engaging heavy armor using low-cost payloads,” according to the company.

The platform was designed for swarm operation, where multiple unmanned ground vehicles coordinate under the control of an operator to overwhelm armored targets.

With a focus on swarm autonomy and integration into human-led formations, developers seek to increase survivability and lethality on the battlefield while reducing the cognitive load on soldiers.
