Switzerland has announced an investment in multispectral camouflage systems to protect its armed forces against drones and modern reconnaissance technologies.
The Federal Office of Defense Acquisition (armasuisse) signed contracts with three European companies — SSZ Camouflage Technology AG, Saro GmbH and Saab — following a series of technical and operational tests that assessed performance, integration and cost-benefit.

These advanced systems, known as MSTS, reduce the optical, infrared and radar signatures of vehicles, installations and troops, making them difficult to detect by enemy sensors and cameras. The measure is part of the country’s military modernization program and is aligned with the Armaments Policy Strategy approved by the Federal Council, which seeks to strengthen national industry and guarantee access to the most innovative European technologies.
Multispectral camouflage represents a significant evolution in relation to traditional camouflage, using materials capable of absorbing or distorting electromagnetic waves of various lengths. This technology, already applied by companies such as Saab and SSZ in a variety of terrains, reinforces the protection of Swiss forces and diversifies the defense industrial base, ensuring greater security and strategic autonomy.
