Russian President Vladimir Putin said this Thursday (27) that the 28-point peace plan presented by the United States to end the war in Ukraine could be “the basis for a definitive agreement”.
Putin said during a summit with leaders of former Soviet republics that the North American and Ukrainian delegations had agreed to hold a joint meeting in Geneva, Switzerland. The countries also divided the text prepared by the White House into four topics, and one part was shared with Moscow.
On the other hand, the Russian head of state said that some issues of the agreement still need to be debated. He also showed a willingness to formalize a promise that he would not attack Europe in the future. Putin also pointed out that the idea of Russia attacking other nations on the continent was “complete nonsense”.
Russian government leaders reported being pressured to stop attacks on the front lines in Ukraine.
In response, Putin stated that “Ukrainian troops must withdraw from the territories they occupy, and then the fighting will cease. If they do not leave, we will achieve this by armed means. That’s it.”
The Kremlin leader also said that Zelensky is an illegitimate leader and that he could not sign an agreement with Kiev. The Ukrainian’s term ended in May 2024, but new elections were not held for security reasons
