While Princess Diana’s boldness shone through in her style, the museum also noted that what made her “truly unforgettable” was her humanitarian work.

“She helped break the stigma surrounding AIDS and leprosy by meeting and touching patients at a time when many were afraid to,” the statement added. “Those simple gestures changed public perception and gave dignity back to people who were often rejected.”

And her passion for helping others was often represented through her dressed-down clothes, including when she wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty wearing jeans and a button-down with rolled up sleeves on a 1997 trip to Bosnia.
