The Federal Police (PF) opened, this Friday (28), an operation to investigate possible deviations in paving contracts linked to the National Department of Works against Drought and paid for with resources from parliamentary amendments. The action was carried out in partnership with the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU).
The investigation progressed after the CGU identified signs of overbilling, services not performed or half done and records of falsified measurements. Furthermore, the auditors pointed to signs of favoritism towards companies contracted for the works.
According to the investigation, there is suspicion that public servants and representatives of private companies have worked together in a scheme aimed at embezzling funds. The estimated loss exceeds R$22 million.
To deepen the case, the Federal Supreme Court authorized 11 search and seizure warrants in Fortaleza and Natal. During the operation, agents collected five vehicles — three of them luxury — and R$22,000 in cash.
