Moraes orders arrest of deputy Alexandre Ramagem

by Marcelo Moreira

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, this Friday (21) ordered the arrest of federal deputy Alexandre Ramagem (PL-RJ) after the Federal Police raised suspicions that the parliamentarian left Brazil clandestinely.

Sentenced to 16 years, one month and 15 days in prison in connection with the coup plot, the former director of Abin would be in Miami, in the United States, without informing the Chamber of Deputies.

The Chamber reported that it did not receive communication about international travel and that the deputy is not on an official mission abroad.

The situation worsened because, despite presenting medical certificates that would keep him away from parliamentary activities between September and December, he appeared in votes, including in-person sessions, during the periods covered by the documents.

The possible evasion led the PSOL to request, this Thursday (20), the preventive arrest of Ramagem and others convicted of nucleus 1 of the attempted coup d’état.
