It is #FAKE that a video of a tornado passing through pasture is a record of a phenomenon in Paraná; scene was recorded in the USA Reproduction A video is circulating on social media of a tornado passing through a pasture, and the captions of the posts that share this content claim that it is a record of the tragedy that hit Paraná on Friday (7), leaving seven dead and more than 800 injured. Published on Instagram on Saturday (8), one day after cities in Paraná were destroyed, the post has the following text superimposed on the images: “Devastating tornado hits Paraná: city is almost destroyed, with deaths and dozens of injuries”. The video shows a sky with dark clouds and a large tornado touching down in a pasture. ⚠️ Why is this fake? Although the video is real — and not an artificial intelligence (AI) production —, the recording was taken out of context. In reality, the images are of a tornado that hit the city of Gary, South Dakota, United States, on June 28. The scene was captured by Ricky Forbes, a professional tornado hunter, who posted the footage to his Facebook page on July 5 (see below). In the caption, he wrote: “This was the EF3+ Gary, South Dakota tornado… over 2,000 feet tall, with winds in excess of 145 mph, destroying vegetation right in front of us.” To find this content, Fato ou Fake used the InVID tool and fragmented the material into several frames (static images). Then, he selected one of these “photos” and did a reverse search on Google Lens. This research serves to verify what content had previously been reproduced by reliable sources – and in what context. The oldest result indicated the tornado hunter post.
