International tourism in Brazil breaks new record

According to the Brazilian Tourism Institute (Embratur), international tourism in Brazil is expected to break a record in 2025. Around 7.68 million people visited the South American country, which corresponds to the highest accumulation for the first 10 months recorded in the historical series.

The number represents an increase of 42.2% over the same period last year, in 2024. The expectation is that Brazil will end 2025 receiving 9 million tourists, consolidating a new record.

In September, according to information from the Ministry of Tourism, Brazil had already exceeded the target established by the National Tourism Plan 2024-2027, in which 6.9 million people were expected to arrive by the end of 2025. The number represents 2.9% above the forecast.

According to the coordinator of Demand and Multimodal Transport at Embratur, the significant performance of tourism reflects the good moment of Brazilian aviation and the increase in investments in the sector. He highlighted that Florianópolis International Airport reached the unprecedented mark of 1 million international passengers, becoming the third airport in the country to reach this level, only Guarulhos (SP) and Galeão (RJ) had recorded this volume.

In addition to boosting the economy, international tourism also brings social and environmental benefits. Karat highlighted that the sector can generate income for local communities and encourage environmental preservation, as it depends on nature conservation. He argues that domestic tourism serves as a basis for strengthening international tourism, citing destinations such as Caldas Novas (GO) and Porto Seguro (BA) as examples of places that can attract foreign visitors with the support of partnerships between national and international airlines.

With the rise in tourism, foreign companies showed interest in expanding their operations in Brazil. The director of the Spanish airline Iberia, Juan Cierco, announced that the company plans to invest in expanding routes to Latin America from 2026, with a special focus on the Brazilian market. According to him, the country is seen as a strategic destination, not only for its tourist potential, but also for the economic and cultural opportunities it offers.
