Germany arrests another member of Hamas-linked network

The German Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (GBA) announced this Thursday (13) the preventive arrest of a sixth member of the Hamas group, suspected of hiding weapons in Berlin and Vienna to prepare attacks against Israeli or Jewish targets.

The arrest of the individual, identified only as Mahmoud Z., a Lebanese citizen, took place on board a train in the Flensburg region, in northern Germany, where he had just arrived from Denmark.

According to the GBA, he is suspected of violating the German War Weapons Act and the German Weapons Act due to his role in acquiring weapons for the terrorist group Hamas.

In August 2025, he allegedly received an automatic rifle, eight pistols and more than 600 rounds of ammunition in the state of Hesse, in southern Germany, from Borhan El-K, another suspected member of the group, who was arrested this week upon arriving in Germany from the Czech Republic.

According to the indictment, Mahmoud Z. transported the weapons to Berlin, where he handed them over to Wael FM. The weapons were found in Wael FM’s possession when he was arrested in an operation carried out earlier this month, in which police detained three suspects in total.

The man arrested this Thursday will appear before an investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice, who will decide whether to issue a preventive arrest warrant.

As part of the operation against the network, a British man was also arrested this month in London, based on a European arrest warrant. He is suspected of having gathered an arsenal of five pistols in Berlin and transported them to Vienna, where he allegedly stored them in a rented property.

According to the German prosecutor’s office, the objective of the dismantled network was to use the weapons to carry out attacks against Israeli or Jewish targets.
