by Marcelo Moreira

This Friday (28), the General Inspectorate of the Military Police Corporation announced that five police officers were arrested for crimes committed during the mega-operation carried out in Rio de Janeiro, on October 28. The incident left around 122 people dead in the Alemão and Penha complexes.

In addition to the five already arrested, another five are the subject of a search and seizure warrant.

The State Secretariat of Military Police reported that the investigation is being carried out by the 1st Military Judiciary Police Station (DPJM), which found evidence of military crimes committed during service. In an official statement, the corporation’s command stated that it does not tolerate misconduct and that it will take strict measures if irregularities are confirmed.

One of the most serious points identified by the Alerj Commission for the Defense of Human Rights and Citizenship (CDDHC) involves the alleged theft of a rifle, possibly to be passed on to criminal groups. The president of the commission, deputy Dani Monteiro (PSOL), stated that these suspicions arose from images from body cameras.
