Ford has stopped producing the Focus officially discontinued, one of the US manufacturer’s most popular compact models.
The company closed this chapter by manufacturing the final Focus at its factory in Saarlouis, Germany, on Friday, November 14th.
“I can confirm that the last Focus was produced on Friday November 14th. It was a white five-door hatchback,” said Volker Eishead of corporate communications at Ford Europe Motor 1.
@blaulichtreport_saarland🚗💔 The last Focus rolls here: end of an era in Saarlouis. Today the last Ford Focus rolled off the assembly line at the Saarlouis factory – after 55 years of production. One car for the museum, one for the staff. The rest: history – and applause for your time with Ford at the Saarlouis location. An emotional day for thousands of employees – and a moment that Saarlouis will never forget. (Video: Private)♬ Original sound – Blue light report Saarland
The end of the Focus comes a few months after the last sporty ST model rolled off the production line on September 26th. Production of the Fiesta ended in 2023, the Mondeo a year earlier, and the Ka’s long life cycle also ended in 2020.
With the end of the Focus, Ford no longer has any “normal” cars in its portfolio, which now consists exclusively of commercial vehicles and SUVs. Last year explained Jim FarleyCEO of Ford, on why the manufacturer has decided to discontinue so many iconic cars.
The answer is simple, says Farley: Ford simply didn’t make enough profit on these vehicles. In an interview with the Car Magazine He explained that the profit margins were too small to justify further development, even with the models’ reasonable popularity.
“We have always competed at the heart of the passenger car market, which didn’t work particularly well for Mondeo, Focus and Fiesta. They were loved by many customers, but they never justified major investments – unlike commercial vehicles,” Farley told the medium.
