A US Air Force B-52H bomber was again spotted carrying the stealth nuclear cruise missile AGM-181 Long Range Stand Off (LRSO) during a low-altitude test flight over California.

The AGM-181 was developed to replace the older AGM-86B, with longer range, improved stealth performance, and survivability against modern air defense systems. This missile has nuclear weapons capability. B-52 Stratofortress and B-21 Raider Compatible with bombers. As part of the Air Force’s larger modernization program, the project also includes new engines, radar and communications systems. The main contractor is Raytheon, and positive results are being reported from test flights starting in 2022.

The program, valued at about $16 billion, will replace existing missiles in phases by 2030, with initial production expected to begin in 2027. As B-52s were seen being put into operation under clear weather conditions with new weapons, this suggests the possibility that the United States may have intentionally demonstrated force amid heightened strategic tensions around the world.
