The president of the Federal Senate and the National Congress, Davi Alcolumbre, released a press release with scathing criticisms of the political articulation of the Executive Branch. In the statement, he categorically refutes rumors that the House would be making the approval of the new minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) conditional on receiving positions or releasing amendments.
Alcolumbre classified the narrative as a “false impression” and an “attempt to demoralize” the Legislature, pointing out that divergences between the Powers are not being addressed through “adjustment of physiological interests”.
“This is offensive not only to the President of the National Congress, but to the entire Legislative Branch”, stated the senator. He also added that disqualifying those who disagree is an “old method” and does not contribute to institutional dialogue.

There is a clear attempt by sectors of the Executive to create the false impression, before society, that divergences between the Powers are resolved by adjusting physiological interests, with positions and amendments. This is offensive not only to the President of the National Congress, but to the entire Legislative Branch.
In fact, it is an old method of disqualifying anyone who disagrees with an idea or interest of the moment.
No Power should judge itself above another, and no one has a monopoly on reason. Nor can the attempt to demoralize others for the purpose of self-promotion be allowed, especially on grounds that do not correspond to reality.
If the prerogative of the President of the Republic to nominate a minister to the STF is certain, so is the prerogative of the Senate to choose, approving or rejecting the name. And it is essential that, in this process, the Powers respect each other and that each one fulfills their role in accordance with constitutional and regulatory standards.
Having made the choice by the President of the Republic and published in the Official Gazette of the Union, it is perplexing to the Senate that the written message has not yet been sent, which seems to seek to unduly interfere with the schedule established by the House, the exclusive prerogative of the Federal Senate.
In fact, the deadline stipulated for the hearing is consistent with almost all previous indications and allows the definition to take place in 2025, avoiding the delay that, at other times, was so criticized.
Therefore, what is expected is that the democratic game is conducted smoothly. On the part of this Presidency, absolutely nothing outside the process will be able to interfere in the Senate’s free, sovereign and conscious decision on the paths to be taken.
