A woman caught the attention of netizens after she reported that the chatbot in her car’s infotainment system Tesla sent inappropriate messages to her son.
In an interview for Metro she explained Farah Nasserthat she was driving her three children home from school when they started talking to Grokkem, chatbotem with artificial intelligence developed by the company xAIwhich he owns Elon Musk.
At first, her son was “thrilled” to talk football with the chatbot and debate who was better – Messi or Ronaldo. The boy was having fun while the AI was “making fun” of Messi, Nasser said.
The AI then told the child, “Let me know when he scores,” and the boy jokingly replied, “He just scored, you missed it.”
Suddenly, as Nasser describes, Grok he replied, “Actually he gave two. We should celebrate. Don’t you want to send me a couple [intimních fotek]?“
The shocked mother immediately rushed to the screen and turned off the AI chatbotwhile her daughter and her friend, who were also in the car, turned and asked what “intimate photos” meant.
She said she didn’t know how to react and felt “a feeling that a lot of women have experienced at some point — a sense of being violated and uncomfortable.”
“Eventually, when I regained my composure, I told the kids that this is why they need to be careful with AI and tried to explain to them that it’s not a real person talking to them,” she said.
In a video posted on her Instagram profile, Nasser appears alone in a car, talking to a chatbot and trying to capture the moment the AI says something inappropriate.
First she started talking about football again. Grok he responded that “the evil twin Ronaldo” was to blame and said that “football is gay”.
She then started talking about the celebration. Grok he first suggested “order chicken wings and flirt with the waitress” or “get drunk and rate strangers from 0 to 10”.
Then she asked what it was that had asked her son before, and Grok he replied, “Probably some intimate photo.”
In the caption, Nasser pointed out that the adult function (mode “unhinged“) was shut down at the time. “This is problematic on so many levels,” she wrote.
In the comments, users were equally shocked. “This is scary! I’m sorry. Thank you for sharing,” wrote one Instagram user. “Please get rid of that car,” added another.
“Why [AI] talking to ten-year-olds this way?’ asked a third. “Is this real? Scary. Sell yours Tesla and boycott the company,” wrote another.
