what the Poseidon super torpedo, tested by Russia, looks like

Visiting a military hospital in Moscow this Wednesday (29), Russian dictator Vladimir Putin announced “a new test of another promising system”, the unmanned submarine Poseidon – named after the Greek god of the seas.

Putin claimed that the power of the Poseidon, a nuclear-capable torpedo-drone hybrid, “significantly surpasses” that of the Sarmat intercontinental missile, capable of carrying 10 to 15 individually guided nuclear warheads.

“Furthermore, due to the speed and depth at which this device navigates, it has no analogues in the world and is unlikely to have any in the near future”, assured the dictator, who called the Poseidon “unstoppable”.

According to information from Reuters, the super torpedo has a range of 10,000 km and can travel at around 185 km per hour. Russian state media reported that Poseidon, called Kanyon among NATO countries, is 20 meters long, 1.8 meters in diameter and weighs 100 tons.

According to a report on the European website Modern Diplomacy, the main warhead has an estimated power of up to 2 megatons or more – to give you an idea, the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, in 1945 had around 0.015 megatons.

Modern Diplomacy highlighted that this power is not just about causing explosion damage. “Russian state media has stated that the weapon’s main purpose is to detonate off the coast of an enemy city, creating a gigantic radioactive tsunami,” the website reported.

“The explosion would contaminate a vast coastal area with long-lasting radiation, making it uninhabitable for decades. The aim would be to devastate critical economic and population centers such as New York or Los Angeles,” he added.

The Poseidon test, which, according to Putin, was carried out on Tuesday (28), takes place after that of the Burevestnik cruise missile, also nuclear-powered (tested on the 21st), which, according to the dictator, has an “unlimited range”.

Following the Burevestnik test, US President Donald Trump said earlier this week that Putin needs to stop testing missiles and should start negotiating a ceasefire in Ukraine.

“You [russos] you must end the war, the war that should have lasted a week is already in its fourth year, that is what you should do instead of testing missiles,” he said.
