Wave of mysterious drones affects flights in Germany

by Marcelo Moreira

Germany was the latest country to incur the sighting of mysterious drones.

Munich airport was forced to stop its operations for almost seven hours, which caused the cancellation of at least 17 flights and the deviation of another 15, affecting about three thousand passengers, according to official statement.

The flights were resumed on the morning of Friday (3). Munich emerges as the latest target of a campaign still unknown to drone actions, observed in at least three other European countries last month.

These sightings were seen in territories of NATO members, which led the organization to hold meetings for possible measures against these unknown drones activities. Russia’s involvement in these operations was not discarded.

Denmark, which was disorder at airports and sensitive military areas, prohibited civil drones operation in its airspace while preparing to receive European Copenhagen leaders this week.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has said in recent weeks that, although authorities cannot conclude who was behind drone sightings in Denmark, “we may at least conclude that there is mainly a country that represents a threat to European security: Russia.” Moscow rejected statements that cite his possible involvement in destabilization actions.

On Thursday (2), France announced the arrest of two crew members of a Russian tanker investigated for alleged involvement in drone operations in Danish territory. French President Emmanuel Macron has avoided giving details of the arrests, but said the country will “clarify everything within his reach.”
