During the practical test, prospective maintenance and drivers demonstrated their readiness to operate the PGRK ‘Yars’, one of the world’s most powerful nuclear deterrent systems, by precisely maneuvering a vehicle weighing tens of tons through narrow passages and complex terrain.
Prior to the practical stage, soldiers took a theoretical test that included everything from general military subjects to detailed knowledge of the structure and operating principles of the ‘Yars’ complex. The system is designed to ensure the strategic nuclear countermeasures capability of the Russian Federation.
The technical school has a modern infrastructure with high-performance simulators and 3D graphics, which allows students to improve their driving and maneuvering skills in different climatic and terrain conditions. This is an essential element in tactically operating ‘Yars’ in actual operational situations.
The power of ‘Yars’
PGRK ‘Yars’ (RS-24) is one of Russia’s main mobile nuclear deterrent systems. It can carry multiple nuclear warheads and has a range of more than 11,000 kilometers. The system provides strategic mobility and high survivability, and is designed to withstand preemptive attacks.
‘Yars’, mounted on a highly mobile 16×16 drive body, can move quickly not only on paved roads but also on unpaved roads, making it very difficult for enemy intelligence collection systems to detect.
Its destructive power and ability to penetrate missile defenses reinforce the role that the Strategic Missile Forces play as the core ground force of Russia’s nuclear trinity.
After the graduation ceremony, the new maintainers and drivers will be officially certified and assigned to operational units, where they will play a key role in maintaining the mobility and combat readiness of the ‘Yars’ system.
