Venezuelan activists exiled in Colombia suffer attack

The Venezuelan opposition leader and winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, María Corina Machado, denounced and condemned a shooting attack against two exiled activists in Colonia, on Monday (13).

According to the statement, the targets were Luis Peche Arteaga and Yendri Velásquez. Both left the country fleeing the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro, according to the Nobel laureate.

Corina asked the Colombian government, led by Gustavo Petro, to investigate the case. “We call on the Colombian authorities and the government of President Gustavo Petro to conduct a complete, transparent and urgent investigation that will clarify the facts, identify those responsible and guarantee justice. Most importantly, we demand that protection be guaranteed to them and Venezuelans exiled in Colombia”, emphasized the opposition leader.

The Bogotá National Police reported that two Venezuelan citizens were injured in a shooting attack in the Los Cedros neighborhood. A car allegedly used in the attack was found by authorities with two pistols, in the north of the capital. Three suspects are wanted, but so far no arrests have been made.
