US revokes visa of Brazilian who celebrated Kirk’s death

by Marcelo Moreira

The United States government announced this Tuesday (14) that it has revoked the visas of six foreign citizens for making derogatory comments on social media about the death of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

According to information from the State Department, the six people who had their visas revoked are from Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, Paraguay and South Africa. They were not identified.

A People’s Gazette asked the State Department for information about who the Brazilian citizen is, but has not yet received a response. This report will be updated if there is a return.

In a post on X, the State Department said that “the United States has no obligation to welcome aliens who wish Americans dead.”

“The Department of State continues to identify visa holders who celebrated the heinous murder of Charlie Kirk,” said the department, which republished posts that motivated these visa revocations, but with the users’ names marked out so they could not be identified.

In the case of the Brazilian, as well as the Mexican and Paraguayan, the State Department did not add images of the post, but said: “A Brazilian citizen alleged that ‘Charlie Kirk was the reason for a Nazi rally where they marched in his honor’ and that Kirk ‘DIED TOO LATE’. Visa revoked.”

Previously, the US had announced the revocation of the visas of doctor Ricardo Barbosa, comedian Tiago Santineli and influencer Juliana Rosa, known as “Juju dos Teclados”, all Brazilians, due to comments about the activist’s death.

The announcement of the revocation of the visas came at a time when the President of the United States, Donald Trump, posthumously awarded Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian decoration.

The ceremony took place in the Rose Garden of the White House and was attended by Erika Kirk, the activist’s widow. She became CEO of Turning Point USA, a conservative organization founded by her husband, following the murder of Kirk, who was killed during an event at a Utah university on September 10.

If he were alive, Kirk would be 32 years old this Tuesday. At the ceremony, Trump celebrated the good weather in Washington, which allowed the event to be held outdoors.

“I told Erika that God was watching. And he didn’t want that [que a cerimônia fosse realizada em um local fechado] for Charlie,” said the American president.

In his speech, Trump said that Kirk’s activism was decisive for him to win the 2024 election and return to the White House, after his 2020 electoral defeat.

“He helped make it happen. [Sem Kirk]perhaps [a democrata] Kamala [Harris] were here today. That wouldn’t be good”, joked the Republican.

“Charlie is reaching a much more important milestone,” Trump said at the ceremony. “We are forever inscribing his name on the eternal list of true American heroes. He is a true American hero.”

Erika, who received the medal from Trump, said it was the “perfect birthday present for Charlie.”

“Thank you, Mr. President, for honoring my husband in such a profound and meaningful way,” she said. Argentine President Javier Milei was also present at the ceremony.
