The attack on a synagogue in Manchester on Thursday (2) was classified by the UK authorities as terrorism, police said. At least two people were murdered and three others are in serious condition.
The aggressor, who was later confirmed by the authorities, directed a car against passersby outside the Hebrew Hebrew congregation of Heaton Park, which was particularly moved by being Yom Kippur, one of the Jewish’s sacred holidays. Premier mobilizes reinforced safety to UK Synagogues
British Prime Minister Keir Strmer announced on Thursday that “additional police resources” will be sent to the UK synagogues after the terrorist attack that left two people killed and at least three wounds in a synagogue in Manchester, northwestern England.
Stamer said he will do everything he can to “keep the Jewish community safe” while flying back to the UK coming from Copenhagen in Denmark, where he participated in a summit of the European political community. Upon arriving in the United Kingdom, the Prime Minister will preside over an emergency meeting to decide on other measures.
Strmer said he was “horrified” with the attack and emphasized that it was “even more terrible” for occurring on Yom Kippur. King Charles III commented that he and Queen Camilla are “deeply shocked and sad” with the “terrible” event in Manchester, “especially on such a significant day for the Jewish community.”
Located in the Crumpall neighborhood, in the north of the city, the synagogue was officially founded in 1935 and is composed of Orthodox Jews Askenazes and currently directed by Rabbi Daniel Walker, according to the official website.
